It represents a major step forward in the digitalisation of the country’s healthcare system with the launch of the Cluster Health Information System.

Dr Nalinda Jayathissa speech

The launch of the Cluster Health Information System (CHIS) began at the Thambuttegama Base Hospital. This marks a big step forward in digitizing our country’s healthcare system.

CHIS is introduced under the Primary Healthcare Digitalization Project. This is a major change in how primary healthcare is delivered in Sri Lanka. The official launch took place yesterday (05) at the Thambuttegama Base Hospital.

This system helps us manage resources better. It supports a more organized and complete care service. It also allows us to make quicker decisions based on real data.

CHIS connects hospitals and clinics around a main hospital that offers specialist care. Doctors and nurses in the network can access patient records, X-rays, lab results, prescriptions, and medical history in one place. This helps provide faster and more accurate treatment.

The system was developed with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Health System Enhancement Project (HSEP). ADB has also funded and supported the technical side of this new health information system.

Hospitals in Galnewa, Eppawala, Thalawa, Rajanganaya Yaya 5 and Yaya 7, Negampaha, Katiyawa, and the Medical Officers of Health offices in Galnewa, Thalawa, and Rajanganaya are now linked with the Thambuttegama Base Hospital through this system.
