His Excellency Khalid Hamoud Nasser Aldasam Alkahtani, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka, met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (10). During the meeting, Ambassador Alkahtani conveyed the best wishes of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz to President Dissanayake on his recent election victory.
The discussion covered various topics, including the current regional situation and Sri Lanka’s support to Saudi Arabia. Ambassador Alkahtani praised Sri Lanka’s longstanding assistance and the continued cooperation between the two nations. The leaders also focused on strengthening economic ties, with particular attention to enhancing Sri Lanka’s tea exports to Saudi Arabia.

For the 2024 general election, the nominations of the candidates running for the National List MP positions of the National People’s Power were signed today (10) from 3.00 pm at the JVP head office under the chairmanship of the General Secretary of the National People’s Power, Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, the General Secretary of the National People’s Power, Tilvin Silva, and lawyer Sunil Watagala.
The National People’s Power’s national list includes former Members of Parliament, businessmen, lawyers, doctors, engineers, accountants, artists, and social activists. This year, a candidate representing people with disabilities has appeared on the National People’s Power’s national list.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held a key meeting today with senior officials from both the Sri Lanka Customs Department and the Inland Revenue Department at the Presidential Secretariat today (09). The discussions centred on strategies to enhance revenue generation and improve operational efficiency within both departments, in line with the government’s broader economic mandate.
During the meeting, officials from both departments presented the challenges they face in managing revenue and tackling tax evasion. They stressed the importance of strengthening coordination between the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and Customs to effectively combat these issues. It was highlighted that better collaboration would ensure more robust enforcement of tax laws and prevent tax leakage, further boosting the country’s revenue collection.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Sri Lanka, H.E. Paitoon Mahapannaporn, paid a courtesy call on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat earlier today (09).
During the meeting, the Thai Ambassador extended congratulations on the President’s recent election victory and conveyed the best wishes of the Government of Thailand.
H.E. Mahapannaporn also delivered a special message from the King of Thailand, H.E. Maha Vajiralongkorn, congratulating President Dissanayake and expressing goodwill towards his administration.
In the discussion, the Ambassador noted the high expectations that the people of Sri Lanka have for the newly elected government and offered Thailand’s support in helping to meet these aspirations.
