New Year message of the NPP

(-Colombo, April 13, 2024-)

Sinhala-Hindu-New-Year

The New Year festival, a significant cultural celebration for the Sri Lankan Sinhalese and Tamil people, is set to dawn on April 13 this year. We extend our heartfelt greetings to all, as we come together to mark this auspicious occasion. This traditional belief that the Sun’s transition from Pisces to Aries completes a cycle symbolizes our shared heritage and unity.

The New Year festival is not merely a time for the renewal or resumption of material aspects of life. It is a social phenomenon that brings about positive change. It offers us the opportunity to let go of the unnecessary baggage we’ve carried for too long and infuse our lives with a fresh perspective. This freshness also includes the motivation to reflect on our journey thus far and envision a brighter future.

In the current economic crisis, even thinking about celebrating the New Year according to their expectations can be a painful experience for many people. It has happened because the new year has completed a cycle. However, the current and existing regimes have kept the Sri Lankan society in the same vicious cycle of disappointing the people’s expectations for 76 years. The coming New Year has opened up the opportunity to choose a people’s government that will get the people out of the vicious and corrupt socio-economic political cycle and lift the bankrupt country to a developed and just society. The wishes made in the New Year will be fulfilled only in such a situation.

The people of all nationalities from north, south, west and east align themselves with the need for a people’s administration by removing the differences until that good omen arrives. We are confident that this New Year will be a new energy to start the historic journey for a new national renaissance that will achieve real victories for the country and the people.

The press release

(-Colombo, April 10, 2024-) Some people are trying to spread wrong information about a debate between Comrade Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Power, and Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, so the truth needs to be clarified. (-Colombo, April 10, 2024-)

Some people are trying to spread wrong information about a debate between Comrade Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Power, and Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, so the truth needs to be clarified.

The first conversation about a debate between the two sides was created with the statement made by the leader of our party, Comrade Anura Kumara Dissanayake, on 01.09.2023 on the Hiru ‘Salakuna TV programme, that he is ready for a debate with Mr. Sajith Premadasa on the development path of the country. It was in response to the opinions raised by journalists about the situation in which Mr. Sajith Premadasa was coming out with various stories against the National People’s Power in various media.

Regrettably, Mr. Sajith Premadasa declined the debate challenge for undisclosed reasons. Subsequently, several MPs from his party proposed an alternative debate on economic policies with the Economic Council of the National People’s Power. We now observe an attempt by some members of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya to divert attention from the original debate, as evidenced by the press release issued by MP Nalin Bandara on the 9th of this month.

In that announcement, he accuses the Economic Council of the National People’s Power of avoiding the debate, saying that he was the first to propose the debate and that the National People’s Power has forgotten the past. However, the Economic Council of the National People’s Power does not need to avoid the debate on the economy as it has a strategic plan and practical programme related to the recovery of Sri Lanka from the economic crisis and to develop it as a developed country worldwide.

We reiterate the crucial importance of the debate between Comrade Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Mr. Sajith Premadasa, both of whom are potential candidates for the upcoming presidential election in 2024. This debate, based on the initial discussion, will serve as a clear indicator of who is afflicted with the ‘disease of forgetting the past ‘.

Considering all this, we would like to submit the following proposals to the Samagi Jana Balawegaya

  1. We are ready to hold a debate between Comrade Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Power and Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, on the path to recovery from the overall crisis that the country has fallen into.
  2. If, for any reason, the Samagi Jana Balawega is not ready for such a debate and accordingly, if such a debate is not held, the Economic Council of the National Peoples Power is prepared to have a debate with a similar representative group of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya.

In light of this, we earnestly request the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and all its affiliated parties to desist from disseminating false information about the debate. We also appeal to the public not to be swayed by these falsehoods and to perceive the situation accurately.

(Ramadan Message – 10.04.2024)

Ramadhan-Wish

The Ramadan festival, which marks the end of the month-long fasting period observed by the followers of Islam, is on April 10. We bring the best wishes of the National People’s Power to the Sri Lankan Muslim devotees who celebrate the event.

The purpose of the Ramadan festival is to use the wealth saved in the practice of fasting for a month by patiently bearing the hardships of daily life to help our fellow people. Ramadan rituals are an attempt to recall the qualities of humanity and self-sacrifice that have been forced away from people by the current corrupt social system.

We are witnessing the economic and social disaster that the country and the people have been dragged down by seventy-six years of corrupt politics. We have also seen the evil tendencies of dividing people based on communalism and religion for the sake of greedy political interests and how the land has been soaked in blood for it.

Nevertheless, it is gratifying that society consciously rejects this corrupt and greedy political culture and its evil desires. It is this public opinion that the corrupt rulers are afraid of. We greatly value the guidance given by the Ramadan festival, based on brotherhood, to all people to rise above their nationalities and rise as one Sri Lankan nation bound by brotherhood.

In a historic year when Sri Lanka is prepared to start a new era of renaissance, we invite the Sri Lankan Muslims celebrating Ramadan to join hands as one Sri Lankan nation in the name of brotherhood.
