The national policy and programme of the National People’s Power for people with disabilities, ‘Ekwa Athanohera,’ was launched this evening (03), headed by the leader of the National People’s Power, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, at the Sri Lanka Foundation.
Social activist Sugath Wasantha de Silva, Director of the Education Center for Hearing Impaired Children, Honorable Greta Nawalabedda Sister, literarian Thakshila Wickramaarachchi representing the hearing impaired community, Subhani Udeshika, social activist for the physically challenged community, D.M. Thilakaratne, social activist for the community with intellectual development disabilities, spoke at the occasion on behalf of the disabled in various fields. They also showcased their skills and talents by performing dances and songs on stage.
Delivering the main speech, National People’s Power leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that when he observes the situation, he is reminded of how unkind and unjust our society is. He further assured, ‘The trust you place in us will not be damaged by even a speck of dust.’

The conference began at 10:00 a.m. today (02) at the P. D. Sirisena Grounds in Maligawatta, Colombo. Approximately 15,000 teachers from across the country attended the conference, which was held under the theme ‘A Renaissance – A New Era – A Teachers’ Power: The Grand National Teachers’ Conference’.
Addressing the conference, Mr Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Power, stated that he and the National People’s Power would allocate more than 4% of the budget to education upon coming to power, with a stage-by-stage implementation that will begin in the first budget. He further emphasized that the history of education in this country dates back to the arrival of Mihindu Thero and that without the teachers who provided maternal and paternal love to the children, he would not be where he is today.
National Executive Member of National People’s Power, President of Trade Union Federation K.D. Lalkantha, Vishaka Abeyratne, Vice President of the Ceylon Teachers Service Union, and Mahinda Jayasinghe, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Service Union also spoke at the conference.

Yesterday afternoon, a meeting took place at the JVP head office between a delegation that included the Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Duminda Hulangamuwa, and Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Power.
A copy of the publication ‘Vision 2030 – Five Year Economic Plan,’ compiled by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, was given to the National People’s Power on this occasion.

The discussion regarding the petition filed in the High Court against the sale of land belonging to Milko Company and the National Plantation Development Board (NLDB) was held today (01) at 10.30 am.
The case was filed by People’s Movement for Protection of Industrial and Agricultural Lands.
Commenting on the matter, Namal Karunaratne, National Organizer of the All Ceylon Farmers Federation, said, ‘Lands owned by Milko and the National Plantation Development Board are valuable resources in Sri Lanka. We have an advanced programme to utilize these resources for nation-building, and therefore, we must protect them. We anticipate justice from the Supreme Court.’

During his visit to Japan, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Leader of the National People’s Power (NPP), held a meeting with Mr. TSUGE Yoshifumi, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, today (22nd).
The discussion focused on Sri Lanka’s current economic and political landscape, the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Japan, and the future of diplomatic and economic ties. Special attention was given to the upcoming presidential election. Mr. TSUGE Yoshifumi also extended his congratulations to Mr. Dissanayake on his visit.
The meeting was attended by Mr. TSUTSUMI Taro, Director of the Southwest Asian Division of the Department of Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs, Mr. IWASE Kiichiro, Deputy Director of the same division, and several members of the Japan Committee of the National People’s Power.

July 2, 2024 – This morning, the National People’s Power General Secretary, Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, along with National Executive Committee Members Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa and Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala, met with the Election Commission to lodge a formal complaint regarding the violation of local government election laws by the Southern Province Governor, Mr. Luxman Yapa Abeywardhane.
The complaint focused on the appointment of former Chairmen of Pradeshiya Sabhas and members as the Governor’s coordinators to supervise the activities performed by local authorities in their respective areas. The NPP representatives emphasized that this constitutes a gross violation of public property and election laws. They requested the commission to conduct a formal investigation and to intervene to stop such illegal actions.
